Today we lost a friend, a mentor, trailblazer and fearless public advocate. Whether she was representing the 34th legislative district, serving as speaker of the house, or as the Lt. Governor, she always spoke truth to power and ensured that communities of color were heard and respected.
Her work, dedication, and service was a true inspiration to all.
To honor her legacy, we must close ranks and recommit ourselves to this fight for civil rights, social justice and equal opportunity.
The NAACP New Jersey State Conference expresses our heartfelt condolences to her family
and friends on the loss of the Honorable Sheila Y. Oliver, Lieutenant Governor of the State of
New Jersey. She will be missed.
